West Caldwell/Caldwell Public Schools
STATEMENT OF EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
"In a world endlessly shaped and reshaped by the revolution and evolution of peoples and ideologies, the one goal which remains eternally steadfast is the acquisition and application of knowledge. We affirm our responsibility to do everything in our power to enable each student to reach this educational goal.
We acknowledge the fact that each student has needs and purposes which are his or hers alone, that these needs and purposes relate to his or her living experiences, and that this contemporary relationship can be demonstrated, explained, and strengthened through our help.
It lies neither within our ability nor our desire to substitute for or supplant the guidance and love of the student's family. We do gladly accept the opportunity, within the bounds of this school system, to help all students experience the power, richness, and beauty of this world. We desire to help all students develop an understanding of, and respect for, the integrity, opinions, and ambitions of others."

EMERGENCY SCHOOL CLOSING INFORMATION
If the Caldwell-West Caldwell Public Schools are to be closed due to snow or other hazardous weather conditions, notification will be announced on WOR, WMTR-AM, WDHA-FM; Comcast Cable Channels 35 and 36, and Channel 5's "Good Day, New York." In addition, one long blast on the fire sirens will be sounded at 6:45 am and 7:45 am. PLEASE DO NOT CALL THE POLICE DEPARTMENT FOR THIS INFORMATION. Instead, call the emergency district number, 973-226-1663. If the announcement is made that the West Caldwell/Caldwell Schools will be closed, it applies to the elementary and secondary schools for the entire day. If the number of days schools are closed for emergency exceeds 3, make-up days will be added at the end of the school year.
If the schools are open, they will remain open all day. However, requests for dismissal or absence of individual children will be honored whenever a parent or guardian wishes to keep a child at home during inclement weather conditions.
Schools may delay opening due to inclement weather if there is an indication that early morning weather will not continue throughout the day. School openings will be delayed by one and one half hours, morning bus pick ups will also be delayed by one and one half hours, and the YMCA Extended Day Program will begin at 10:15 am. Parents should not send their children to school early, since supervision will not be provided. In the event that the schools must close after a delayed opening has been announced, that decision will be made no later than 7:30 am. Messages will be displayed on Channels 35 and 36 as well as announced on the usual radio stations.
